5 japanese animated films you should watch

Who doesn't like animated films?
Films like book of life, big hero 6 or the seasonal favourite- the polar express changed the way we looked at animated films. These films are watchable even as an adult and will forever stay in our hearts. But I couldn't help but notice how underappreciated japanese animated films were. Here are five japanese animated films, in my opinion, everyone should watch.

1. The tales of Princess Kaguya

Yet another magnificent piece of art from studio Ghibli. The tales of princess kaguya should be on your to-watch list if you like japan and it's culture. It's beautifully wrapped in a subtle metaphor that can have multiple interpretations. It really is a work of art.

 2.Your name
"2 seemingly ordinary people of adolescence, divided by the unforgiving yet intertwined threads of time, but yet are driven forward by a slow yet developed love for one another and the resolve to change history itself."

"Your name" is beautifully made and rumour has it, the writer was inspired by Christopher Nolan's interstellar, which is a bonus if you're a Nolan fan.

3. A silent voice
This film is a deep and poignant exploration of sentimentality and feelings where so much is revealed through the use of actions and facial expressions, and no matter how sad this film will make you feel, there is a reason for everything that happens on screen. I personally like this anime on a spiritual level.

4. Wolf children
Wolf Children is a another very interesting film. it deals with sensitive themes such as identity, single parenthood and grief. From the moment the lyrical music begins and the buoyant Hana is introduced, this movie has you in its thrall.

5. From up on poppy hill
It's1963 and Japan is in the midst of swift modernisation, leaving behind the Second World War's painful memories and focusing on a brighter future, symbolised by the coming year's Tokyo Olympics. This film captures the 60s aesthetic and essence perfectly. Definitely a must watch.
