Music is a universal language! Language is not a barrier when it comes to music. Japanese indie bands are taking over the world by storm and you if don't want to miss out, here are 5 japanese bands you should know

Mistume was formed in Tokyo in 2009. The band has released five albums and six singles on their own label. Mitsume is one of my favourite japanese band. Apart from performing at music festivals in Japan, Mitsume is actively performing outside Japan. So far the band has travelled to Indonesia, Thailand, China, Korea and US and left strong impression with the local crowd. Mitsume's music is widely praised for the unique combination of indie rock, dance music, funk and pop.

2. Yogee New Waves

Yogee New Waves are Japanese rock quartet formed in 2013. Thier first song I listened to, was "Climax night"; the song gave off lonely tokyo street at night kind of vibes, and I've been hooked ever since. The band has completed 8-city sold out tour and has been Performing in numerous large scale festivals across the nation. This band is the new wave!

3. No buses

No Buses is a Japanese indie band inspired by 2000’s garage revival icons such as The Cribs and Arctic Monkeys, from which they derive their namesake. They started in October 2016, when lead singer Taisei Kondo met guitarist Nontan in College, before picking up bassist Saori Sugiyama, and drummer Issei Ichikawa, thus forming No Buses. They're considered the asian strokes and I think the title is quite fitting. I couldn't believe they were japanese the first time I heard them. They perform in english unlike most japanese indie bands.

4. Lucie, too

Lucie,Too is a female 3-pc indie-pop band from Utsunomiya, a town two hours by car north of Tokyo. Utsunomiya is famous for its gyoza (potstickers) but soon it'll be the city known for being the hometown of Lucie,Too. The name of the band originates from a song by US indie rock band Now Now. “Lucky” the single originally dropped sometime in December of 2017. What I can I say, other then it was addictive? It’s a short and sweet song that gives off late spring, early summer vibes and it's the only japanese song I tried to learn.

5. Ogre you asshole

Ogre You Asshole is a Japanese rock band formed in Nagano, taking influences from Modest Mouse, Fugazi, Talking Heads, and Can. They were signed to major label VAP in 2009 and have been praised by the notable guitarist Johnny Marr. The band asked for Judy's autograph from modest mouse, instead he wrote "Ogre you asshole" on one of the members arm, so they named thier band after it. They're such a cool band.
